Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

When the Fab's backup starts the actual backup, it immediately shows the total size of the backup, so it doesn't seem to take very long to calculate. The total could either be listed on the final screen before executing the backup, or an optional Preview feature could display the total (and perhaps the breakdown of sizes as per the messages that are seen after the backup starts).

I agree with Diggs that this would be an incredibly useful feature. Quite a few times I've had to cancel a backup after starting it, due to the total gigabytes displayed immediately after starting.

Fine. This will be in the next update. I have added another checkbox on the backup job summary "Show total size before copy". If it is checked, a message showing the total required space will be shown with 2 options : a "Launch" button to run the backup job and a "Cancel" button to close the popup and not do anything else.

I've got Fab's 7 and am in the process of restoring a system now. They have Office 2010 Home and Business. Fab's is copying over a folder of activation information, but I've never tried using it. A quick search of Google (and an old thread here) led me to believe that this doesn't work the way I want it to (or think it does). Can I reinstall Office 2010 with the correct media and have it activate without out extracting the key from the old drive or having the customer locate it? If so, how?
 
This feature works in a few cases:
Windows key must be the same on source and target systems, its architecture must be the same too (32bit vs 64bit). Same thing for the Office version and key. Otherwise it will not activate automatically.
 
Thanks @fabs All those conditions should be true in this case. I removed their old hard drive and installed a new SSD with the same Windows they had (actually it activated from key in BIOS, was formerly Windows 8 then upgraded to 10, so digital activation or whatever it's called).

So do I just run the Office installer and it will see it?

I bought Magical Jelly Bean a few years ago and it's worked pretty well. Problem is is that it's not portable (or the version I have is not best I can tell). It's only on a server that I haven't used in a while. I could fire that server up. Then I'd have to connect the customer's old hard drive and run Magical Jelly Bean. Would be nice if fab's could just handle this along with the other data.

I would first restore the activation files, then use the office installer with the same Office license key.
Since it is an upgraded machine, I don't know if this will work or not. Also, I don't know if it works from let's say a fall creators update system as source and an April update as target.

Fab's AutoBackup already grabs license keys using Nirsoft ProduKey.

Yes it does. That's what I was looking for before, but I've gone back now and see that option. I was looking hard for it under the User's Data tab but didn't look closely enough at the Public Data tab. Thanks!
 
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.3.32618 has just been released.

Change log:
Added:
- Ability to just check the backup's size before running or not the copy job.
- Ability to check free space on network paths before copy.

Fixed:
- Printers list files were not detected at restore, so, they could not be copied back to the Windows desktop.
- The program failed to find the default web browser and an exception error message appeared when running the program on 64bit Windows 10 Spring update 1803 and clicking the tech support forum icon.

A glitch has been fixed in Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro. V7.0.3.32624 has just been released.

When the features "Keep folders dates" and "Show total size before copy" had never been used, their boxes were checked anyway but ignored. To enable these features, it was necessary to uncheck then recheck these boxes.

Feature suggestion...

I pulled my trusty FABS 6 out to move some stuff around today and realized that it won't restore Outlook's configuration unless the .pst files are restored too, and if the destination folder where the PST's came from wasn't in a standard place, it'll happily put them back in documents with no option to move them.

This is normally fine... unless you're using redirected folders... and you've got a 50gb PST to restore to a documents folder on the server...

Serious edge case however, the real fix here isn't really an update to FABs, but a brain transplant on the business owner to 365 his crap!
