My wife can cook a simple meal and leave a disaster in the kitchen. When I'm done the kitchen is spotless.

At least I know I'm not alone. I can cook a multi-course meal and, shortly after the end of it, no one would know. Even during the cooking process, if certain things can be easily cleaned, they are, and they're dumped in the dishwasher as I churn 'em out otherwise.

My partner, by contrast, can make mashed potatoes and have a sink piled with dishes and kitchen implements. And this is even when the dishwasher is empty or in "add more dirty items" stages.

It's maddening.

I don't even use a dishwasher. I like to wash/rinse by hand. I just tell everyone to get out of "my" kitchen, when I cook. Things are done easier, faster, and cleaner when I'm alone. :)

Same here. My wife can cook a simple meal and leave a disaster in the kitchen. When I'm done the kitchen is spotless.
My son and I cooked Thanksgiving dinner yesterday together and I was really pleased that he has developed the same habit of cleaning as he goes. It made it so much easier to work together, which is a first for me. :)
