Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

it looks for account settings and list PST/OST directly linked to them. Then, it also looks in default locations for other files that have not been listed yet.
So are account settings backed up even if the associated OST file is not selected?

Maybe we need a new option that controls whether account settings are backed up, regardless of what outlook data files are selected. It would be good to be able to get account settings but not OST files, or to get PST files but not account settings (e.g. if converting to IMAP).

Not sure how to implement this without making a messy interface.
So it would need several configurations:
1- default behavior like it is now
2- backup only accounts
3- backup accounts and only PSTs
4- backup only PSTs
Maybe there are more that I've not thought about yet...

I thought it could be as simple as a checkbox for 'Outlook account settings' which determines whether account settings are saved (regardless of any selected data files). The OST/PST files could be de-selected manually if desired as we can now.

Another optional enhancement to make it easier to use, there could be a couple of extra checkboxes above the data files list, to select/deselect all PST and select/deselect all OST.

I like the idea.
Then I'll have to experiment how outlook reacts if only account have been saved. Hope it will not be too twisted.
Also, there's some other big stuff on the table: since newest Outlook 2019/365 do not migrate settings from 2010 anymore, I also have to try if I can find out how to make Fab's do that!

I'm not sure how difficult it would be, but there have been multiple times that a customer has asked for their desktop to be setup with their icons as previous. Can even just a screenshot of the desktop screen(s) be done by script?

I know that. Transferring desktop icons layout has been asked so many times...
There are several problems for that :
- If it could take a screen shot of current desktop, that would be only for current user (indeed!).
- Fab's needs admin rights to run so, if you're dealing with a non admin account, the program will be loaded with admin account credentials and would then not be able to screen shot user's desktop.
- Same thing for hooked drives : impossible to get this since it would be offline.

Another way that's been told : using a third party tool like DesktopOK. This option looks seductive but in fact, it's not that handy for the same reasons. There's also another problem : if resolution is different between source and target system, Windows just rearrange icons and will not keep its layout.

Whenever a customer has asked for this I just take a picture with my phone & move everything around. :)
I used to try this when doing a N&P of a customer PC, but the amount of work involved (especially when dealing with multiple IDs) was simply too much. I now simply create a folder on the desktop called "Saved Desk Top Items" and copy into it the desktop icons saved by Fabs. (Both the userid's Desktop folder and also the Public desktop folder.) I then tell the customer that all his desktop icons are in that folder and he can move them to wherever he wants. Often, the customer will find that many icons are no longer needed.

The arrangement of desktop icons has to be the least important 'data' to be transferred. I've never been asked, and none of my customers has ever cared. I remove icons that are obviously not needed (e.g. bloatware app shortcuts), and move old icons to the centre away from the list of freshly installed apps.

Any user that has moved icons around obviously knows how to do it, and they're probably the type that enjoys arranging them!

I have used a utility called ReIcon (from Sordum, previously mentioned recently) for this purpose.

Yes, you have to install it and "take a snapshot" prior, but once you have it you can use it with an existing snapshot to rearrange on a different machine.

Is there going to be a FABS AutoBackup 8 any time in the near horizion?

I bought a copy of AutoBackup 6 PRO during a backup day sale... I want to say in 2015 or 2016? I love the software, and have gotten more than my moneys worth out of it. It even had the perc of alterting me to some files with issues... pictures IIRC, that were ultimately causing me one heck of a hassle trying to migrate a user profile. Tried it the "by hand" method first, was driving me nuts. Remembered I bought, and fired up FABS... BAM! Now your cooking! Deleted those messed up files and presto.

Even though version 6 PRO is doing everything I need. I'd love to support the software and buy a new verison. If I buy 7 PRO now and 8 comes out soon, what's the policy like in that situation? Discounted upgrade? Auto upgrade if your within such a time frame? Or, since this seems like a new thing since I bought my copy, if we are still in "support" do we get upgraded to the new version?

Not trying to be cheap, just not sure how this all works!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

There's no v8 in the plans so far. When I released v7, I offered a free conversion for people who bought their v6 up to 6 months before came out. With 7, things are a bit different. By default, v7 comes with updates (and upgrades) for one year (there's an option for 3 years instead), so, if a v8 comes out in this time frame, upgrade from v7 is included with no additional charge.

While transferring a corrupted profile to a new one on my system, I ran out of room on the target drive (system drive, which contains both profiles). I had relocated Documents and Pictures to a resident "data" hard drive (D:) years ago, and they are huge. The transfer ran out of room because those folders were unwittingly in the process of being transferred to the new profile. (I'm certain I restored those to their default locations before beginning the transfer but that didn't seem to matter.) So cancelled the task and used the Back button to deselect the Documents and Pictures folders, then clicked Next repeatedly to resume the task. The folders were still attempting to be transferred! It was only by exiting Fabs and restarting the job that I could exclude those folders if they had been deselected after the task had started.

I can't find a log file to pass along, so would have to experiment to re-create the problem to verify that I'm not mis-remembering what I did. Is it possible for Fabs to check whether the default folders have been moved, and to ask whether they should be skipped in the transfer? This would be common situation where a hard disk drive supplements a smaller SSD OS drive.

If folders have been relocated to another drive, Fab's detect it. I've been using redirected documents and downloads folders for years an never had any issue with it.
If there's a bug with deselected items being copied anyway, that should be easy to reproduce. I've done a transfer lately while there was a huge apple backup folder. Just like you, I've stopped the task, went back, unselected it and restart the job. The item was skipped as expected. Since it makes a new files list every time it starts a copy job, I must say that I'm puzzled with whatever happened to you here

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.6.1.3688 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Pro only: Local cloud items can now be deselected by default by editing autobackup.ini file and adding "DontProcessCloud=1" value under "[CONFIG]" section.

Fixed:
- Drivers backup in command line mode was not working.
- The program could remain stuck in background while checking for updates availability. Now this process is triggered manually so it starts quicker.
- It is not possible to call updater tool from the link within program's interface with version 7.6.0.3532. If you are running version 7.6.0.3532, you will need to download full package from your store account to get this update.
- It is not possible to restart Home & Office version as administrator from the program's interface in version 7.6.0.3532. However, it was still possible to start it as administrator using right click on program's shortcut.
- There could be some error messages about PowerShell when running under Windows XP.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en
