Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.6.0.3532 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Fixed:
- The program could not find redirected folders paths when new path is elsewhere on C drive. For example, documents folder could be missed if its path is set to "C:\Documents" instead of "C:\Users\User_Name\Documents" as it was not found.
- QuickBooks company file cant get corrupted if QuickBooks processes are still running while backing up / transferring data. If such processes are detected a dialog will show up to prevent this.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

I get the following error when attempting the update within the program:

Then I get the 'Select files to download' dialog with an empty list.

Downloaded from the website, and noticed the new version is actually 7.6.1.3732

I'll look at it as soon as I can. In a first place, I would suspect a firewall issue. Sometimes, download.fpnet.fr, activate.fpnet.fr and store.fpnet.fr urls need to be whitelisted

Edit: just tested an update from 7.6.1.3688 and had no trouble. My #1 suspect remains firewall.

Me too. But when I downloaded it from the store, it's the latest version and works fine. Checking for updates, it says I have the latest version.

I've looked at it. There may be some problem with that temporary control ini file not being released as it should be when updater starts.
I've added some piece of code in main exe so it should never be written on the disk. This way, updater should not output an error. That was the good news.
The bad one is that this change will be visible only for the update after next update since current main exe file can have that issue as well.

First time I'm hearing about this software! I'm going to check this out and show it to the other guys at the shop. I'm loving all the information I'm finding in these forums :)
Dont forget to get your copy of WRT from fellow nibbler @AlexCa
Windows Repair Toolbox and Fabs are the two most important pieces of software you can have.

Aloha Fabrice,

I've got a user's drive with 239,000 files in 7,000 folders under the Dropbox folder. The first time I ran Fab's to do the Backup Data operation, it took quite a while to "take ownership" of the Dropbox folder (spinning hard drive, so it's sloooowwww, plus that is a whole lotta files), and then I was getting a LOT of Warnings about the file not on disk (I didn't save the exact error message, sorry). I killed the task with about 87,000 warning messages but I'm thinking this is "normal" for the situation where there is just a "placeholder" for the file which really is only online. Is this how Fab's is supposed to work with Dropbox?

Mahalo!

You are dealing with files that has references on local disk (this is why you can see their names, size, timestamps) but they are not really there as they are on line. When user opens one of them, it gets downloaded first.
In your case, the user requiring the file is not the one that runs the dropbox account, so files can't be downloaded to get backed up. This is why you are getting such warnings. No worry, files are on the dropbox and Fab's could not touch them. Once user will be logged back in the DropBox user account, he will get his files like he used to.
OneDrive also has such a "file on demand" feature.

When you will restore data, just uncheck DropbBox to avoid surprises.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.6.2.3791 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Gpg4win certificates are now supported.

Fixed:
- An error message about a temporary file being used by antoher process when trying to update from the program itself could appear. This change will be visible only starting from next update. If you are experiencing such an issue today, please grab full package from your store account.
- Improved files size check after copy. Now if source drive disconnects while copying, the program will immediately throw warnings about target files size (usually 0kb) not matching with source ones.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.7.0.4119 have just been released and that's a big update!

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- A new "Accessibility" category is there.
- Support for Windows accessibility settings (color scheme, magnifier, narrator, text size, etc...). This item will keep its last state. For example, if you uncheck it, it will not be selected for next job.
- Support for Windows mouse cursors settings (size, speed, etc...).
- JAWS Screen reader settings
- Kurzweil settings
- Support for HMRC Paye Tools
- Installed printers list export: printer driver's name is now a clickable link that opens Google with printer driver name as search request. This can save time.
- Current, source and target computers names now appear in log's header depending on the job.
- Counters for copied, failed and remaining files now includes percentage based on total files to process to help knowing what remains to do.
- Mozilla based products will stop asking for profile at startup after a restore or a transfer job. This could be very annoying for people with a single profile and could lead end user to make mistakes. If there are more than one profile, profile selection will have to be re-enabled manually.

Fixed:
- GPG4win certificates could not be restored.
- Sometimes Mozilla based products profiles restoration/transfer could not work as expected. To prevent this, these items are now always copied in mirroring mode. Affected products are Firefox, Pale Moon, Comodo Ice Dragon, Waterfox, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird and PostBox.
- Mirror copy efficiency has been improved.
- When processing a Mozilla Firefox profile, serviceworker.txt file's content is reset to prevent corrupted content error message when browsing some websites.
- Bundled third party tools Sumatra PDF and sqlite3 have been updated to their newest versions.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Yes, it's still broken with 7.6.2.3791.
There's still a conflict between main app not releasing txt control file and updater that tries to create the same file. 7.7.4119 uses a different file name so there should not be such an issue with it. You need to go with full package instead (again...).
Sorry about that!

I thought there were check-boxes with which to select multiple additional folders in previous versions. However, now I see the method has changed. When did that happen? I must have been dozing. LOL
