Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.8.0.4231 has just been released.

Here is the change log:

Added:
- Support for NVDA screen reader settings.
- Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 (currently in preview for developers) are supported
- Support for DrayTek Smart VPN Client settings.

Fixed:
- Default Mozilla products family (Firefox, Thunderbird...) profiles were not set back as default profiles after restore / transfer.
- If fonts key was missing from registry, the program got stuck while trying to export fonts registry information during backup / transfer.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).
This time, updater should work as expected (at least, it does on my end ! )

Support for NVDA screen reader settings.

Thank you, very much, for adding NVDA's settings in addition to JAWS settings. Screen readers are used by a distinct minority of the whole Windows user base, but historically they've been subject to some of the worst screwing up of their systems, particularly in regard to accessibility, because most techs have zero familiarity with most assistive tech to begin with.

This will go a long way toward preventing that, and it is deeply appreciated by those of us who work with third-party screen reader technology and all of those who use same.

You'll be so proud of me, I've finally got around to migrating my 16 old Delphi project to the latest Embarcadero compiler :)

Nice.
That's funny as I'm installing latest Delphi (community version for testing first) at the moment ;)

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.8.1.4387 have just been released!

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- The program can now export BitLocker digital password for current running system drive. Backup this item before any Windows upgrade because in some cases, the operating system would not start anymore and ask for this password to access the drive.
- Ability to select all folders in a drive's root at once in additional folders by double click on it or using ">>" button. Then all sub folders will be added to the list except some sensitive ones like C:\Boot, C:\Windows, etc... as they could harm a working windows system at restore/transfer. If you wan to get them anyway, you will need to select them individually. Note about C:\Boot folder : as it may totally break a machine's ability to start, it's impossible to select it anyway.
- Windows Explorer recently opened files list is now handled.

Fixed:
- Improved Mozilla products family (Firefox, Thunderbird...) profiles handling.
- If source drive disconnects while copy job is running (this can happen if source drive is USB attached), the program will not try to send an error report feedback since this is an external problem and not a program issue.
- Windows 7/8/8.1 sticky notes can't be migrated to Windows 11. Due to this, restore or transfer will be disabled for this item if Windows 11 is final operating system. If those sticky notes are really needed, they should be migrated to Windows 10 first, then migrated to Windows 11.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.8.1.4402 have just been released!

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Windows 7/8/8.1 Sticky Notes can now be restored/transferred straight to Windows 11.

Fixed:
- Windows 7/8/8.1 Sticky Notes restore/transfer to Windows 10 was not working anymore due to a missing folder on target user profile.

Using the latest version, I get the old problem of the job apparently finishing but displaying the following screen that suggests it's not...

I just used the same version as earlier and did not have any problem this time. I have no idea why is barfed on the previous job?
Absolutely none. There's code that's supposed to hide it as soon as listing finishes but for some reason, it did not at that moment (perhaps it encountered some issue that prevented it from doing so).
The new code will check if that window is visible just before starting copy job and hide it.

Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.8.2.4447 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Pro version only: Exports and reports final location (default on public desktop) can now be defined by setting the "ReportsStorage" value under [CONFIG] section in AutoBackup.ini file. Example: ReportsStorage=C:\Some_Folder.
Items that will be stored in that folder are: installed software list, printers list, BitLocker digital password, QuickBooks license key, Malwarebytes license key, ProduKey exported keys, WirelessKeyView exported wifi keys.
Note: if that folder does not exists or cannot be created at runtime, path switches back to default.

Removed:
- Recent files support has been removed since it was giving much trouble (errors, program freezes) than it was helpful.

Fixed:
- In backup/transfer mode, if there was nothing in Additional folders list and some got added, they were ignored and did not get copied. Workaround was to uncheck the additional folders box and check it back.
- The dark window showing listing process could remain on top and never disappear even if copy job was finished.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.8.2.4696 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Size for each item other but registry or text exports or html reports can now be shown in summary when choosing "Show total size before copy" option.

Fixed:
- iOs devices backups were not handled if iTunes was installed from Windows Store.
- In some cases, after a restore or transfer job, there could be more than one profile set as default for Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird. Note: install Firefox or Thunderbird first for best results, otherwise, right profile will have to be selected manually using "firefox /p" or "thunderbird /p" command.
- Nirsoft utilities were not whitelisted in Windows Defender if there was another anti-malware installed on the system. Because of this, even if third party anti-malware was disabled, Windows Defender prevented them from running and Fab's AutoBackup could hang.
- Pro version : 7-Zip self extracting package used for software distribution was flagged as trojan with VBA32 Anti Virus engine. Now, Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro is distributed as setup package. It's still portable anyway, so you can choose any target to unpack the files. Default path is "C:\Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro"

OneDrive data not backed up? I thought I read in an update notice that OneDrive was no longer going to be backed up, possibly because it is often/usually cached and the files are in the user's MS account. I just did a backup and there were no Onedrive files in it. The user tells me that they have been unable to locate the data in their MS account. The had forgotten their MS account password but reset it successfully, only to find the files in their OneDrive account were from his wife's computer. The missing files were indeed on the laptop HDD so I backed them up manually.

Am I understanding correctly that the OneDrive folder s not backed up on purpose? Is there an option to make it try to do that and warn if it's empty?

Yesterday was my day for weirdness. On another job, I went to back up a HDD that had a number of folders at the root that I wanted to include in the back-up. However, the drive letter for the drive was nowhere to be found in the sekect additional folders dialogue??? The back-up proceeded normally otherwise and I just copied the additional folders manually. That's a first for me.

There's no change regarding OneDrive. It still can be backed up. If files on demand feature is enabled and files cannot be copied because they're only in the cloud, then there will be warning and errors in logs.
Have you enabled the "DontProcessCloud=1" option under "[CONFIG]" section of autobackup.ini file ? If so, then it explains why OneDrive files were skipped.

Perhaps you plugged the drive after you started Fabs ?
