What sucks is that people do not "read" between the lines and recognize the review for what it really is.
I'll have to differ with you on that one. Stupid, and I do mean genuinely stupid, people don't read between the lines - but I'd say that the vast majority of review readers who are not stupid do. Any adult who's been around the block enough has seen insane rants, and not just in writing.
When I see an individual or entity that has a very high percentage 4 and/or 5 star ratings, even if all the rest are 1 star, I read the 1-stars mostly for amusement. A good demonstration of this is the Amazon reviews for
Rhino Ramps 16K GVW Capacity. What disturbs me is that Amazon prominently features the most negative reviews, and if you look at the failed ramps, you know exactly why they failed based on doing the very things that the instructions very clearly tell you that you must not do. I am astounded, when looking at the ones that failed, that these idiots weren't removed from the gene pool ages ago. I do think that when people view the preponderance of reviews, and evidence, they can and do take these reviews by those who have no business using auto ramps to start with for what they're worth: nothing. [Disclosure: I used to use these ramps and wrote
this review for them. I destroyed one set by having a stupid accident where I did not drive the truck on to them slowly enough, and ended up overshooting the front lip and crushing them (which was far preferable to them remaining intact and damaging the truck). That mistake is my fault, and no one else's, least of all the manufacturer's.]
