Limitations for Teamviewer FREE ver.

Get TeamViewer. Let it become the foundation of your remote support operation. Install it on every client PC you service. It will save you TIME, which is your most valuable resource. It also demonstrates the VALUE of YOUR SERVICE.

If you are still farting around trying to diagnose your client's computer problems without seeing them, you are working against yourself, and you are wasting your client's time and your time. That crapola is for overseas tech support from India. My clients know I generally do not answer questions without actually seeing the problem. If they had the skill set to accurately describe their problem, they could probably fix it themselves.

If my clients are on the Remote Support Plan with me, then the service is free. If they are not, then I bill them at $1.50 per minute ($90 per hour) with a 30 minute minimum charge.

You guys know this thread was started in 2011 right? I'm pretty sure he has made a decision :p

The Free version can not be used for commercial purposes (e.g. computer repair people).
Yeah, but how many "computer repair people" use it for commercial use? I bet quite a number do. I don't do many remote servicing, but when I do, I use Anydesk and paid the $68 subscription which I have made back a few times over.

I've been looking for a decent alternative
Give AnyDesk a try. Its free! But you can opt to pay like I did since I rarely do remote servicing, but the price is worth it.

Well, yeah. I'm sure there are hundreds of techs using it against the TOS. That, in my opinion, isn't a very smart thing to do. Especially if you want your business to maintain trustworthyness and good will. I can imagine how damaging it could be if your company name was suddenly in the local news for software fraud -- you'd lose legit customers and get droves of people looking for pirated goods... on top of the legal issues.

If anyone knows how to get the truly free version of this software that doesn't expire, then please let me know. I've been looking for a decent alternative, since Remote Desktop is no longer included in non-professional versions of Windows.
One downloaded it a few times from their website, but they change the download page frequently, making it really easy to accidentally get a trial of the pro version. There is also an offset to trial the 'pro' version in the install of the free version. The easy way is to use ninite.com - you always get the free version installed properly with no hassle, no accidental trial of the pro version, and always the latest version. I find its easier to walk computer illiterate people through installing via ninite.com than any other methods I've tried. The pro version comes with a slicker way to do it on client computers. The lifetime subscription is worth every penny IMHO.

I have to give Teamviewer the A+. Sure, its expensive, it cost A$499.00 and a further A$279 for each "upgrade" to the latest version.
You don't have to upgrade as the previous version will work fine, but you miss out on new features.
I have my own custom client module, custom host module etc, you can record sessions, screenshare, upload/download files, add groups, etc, etc.
They even have inbuilt RMM (IT-Brain, for an extra fee)
It's fast, stable and most importantly, easy for my customers.
To cover the cost I just factor in a small charge for each job. It pays for itself in no time!
They also have a local presence (Support Centre) in an office not far from me!
I tried RDP, VNC, SSH, Screenconnect, Log Me In, AeroAdmin (so sloooow!), Instant House Call and others, but settled with Teamviewer.
Cross platform, works on anything what more could you want?

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of Teamviewer, AnyDesk (previously mentioned) is a reliable, lower-cost alternative. Not sure it was available in 2011, but might be of interest now. Two features that are better (IMO) than TV: the tabbed view for multiple monitors and copy/paste (but not drag and drop) file transfer.

I have used Teamviewer since V4.x Life time licence is for the life of that version. I only upgrade every other version, old verrsions always work PROVIDED that the client has not updated to a newer version that whatyou are running

I use my quick connect option through atera...it's not the best solution, I'm sure, but I already pay for it through my Managed IT services, so I get the benefits from it. It pretty much uses the windows RDP, but for what I'm using it for it's fine.
