Windows Repair Toolbox

Hi all, version 3.0.0.4 is now available:

- Added the ability to backup / restore the customization's added to the program.
- Fixed the "Stress Test" download, in the "Final Tests" tab.
- Some other internal improvements and fixes.

Thank you.

Hey guys, I've just released version 3.0.0.5 of Windows Repair Toolbox:

- Expanded the capabilities of the backup / restore customization's functionality: besides the "Branding" settings and the custom.xml file, it can now backup all the tools added to the "Custom Tools" tab. This allows you to quickly restore your customization's after downloading a new version of the program, or to more easily deploy those same customization's into other copy of WRT.

- Fixed: if the "AVLeftovers" window was closed in the middle of a scan (so, without the "Stop" button being clicked first), that scan would continue to run in the background, and an informative window would be displayed at the end.

- Fixed: an error that prevented a customization's backup to be saved to the root of the Windows Repair Toolbox directory (there are however, some sub-folders inside the Windows Repair Toolbox directory where the backup cannot be saved, that's intended).

- Fixed: a rare circumstance would still result in an "Root element is missing" error message at the program startup, or when manually checking for updates.

Thank you.

This! It was pretty regular.

Thank you!

In that case it's a "thought to be a rare circumstance" :D Even though it shouldn't (unless I'm missing something), please let me know if it happens again.

At startup, WRT checks for program and definitions updates. If it could reach the server and return a valid reading about what's the current program version, I (wrongly) assumed that it would also be able to return a valid reading about what's the current definitions version.

So, in order to save time, I decided to only validate if it could do the first reading, and, if yes, I didn't bother to validate if it could do the second reading. Hence, sometimes, the error. In order to avoid it, the program is now validating both readings.

I got this error everytime I opened WRT. I could fix it by just deleting the WRT.exe file and upacking the .zip over the top.
Funny thing was that it only happened on my Samsung 128GB USB 3.0 key.
I never saw the error on my IODD, external WD Backup drive or from the "master" copy on my shop computer with WD Red 4TB drive.

Any way to change the default browser when using the download link for program updates?
It invokes IE which I don't really want to use.

Thanks for a great program Alex. :)

I like the added feature of a backup and Restore of Branding and Custom Tools.

Updating to the latest version takes less than 30 seconds.
Re: Download .zip, paste into Windows Repair Toolbox folder, run .zip, Shift-A to overwrite all, done.

I keep a mirrored master copy of the entire Windows Repair Toolbox folder on another drive to just copy and paste if needed.

During an "update all" AVRemovers doesn't seem to want to download. Gets to 2.8% and stops dead. Everything else downloads fine.

Edit: Sorry should be 28%

Hey Greg, I've just tested and the "AVRemovers" is downloading fine here. Maybe try to disable the AV (there is one tool in there that trigger some AV's), or maybe their server is having some temporary problem to serve your location. Anyway, thank you for the heads up.

No, there's no way to choose a default browser from the program.
However WRT doesn't invoke IE or any browser in particular, it will open the link with whatever browser is set by the OS.

Thanks Alex, I've set Opera as default, and checked defaults as @glennd suggested above but still opens in IE?
Need to do some more investigating...

Re AV Removers: It worked fine a little later, must have been something on their end?

Possibly. It could be that their server was having some temporary problem to serve your location. All I can tell is that It was not from the WRT side, since I've tested in my computer and it worked fine. Anyway it's a good thing that you reported, just in case it was something on my side that I needed to correct.

Hi guys, I've just released version 3.0.0.6 of WRT. The only purpose of this update was to reduce the size of program package. This was done by replacing Notepad++ (used to edit the custom.xml file in the "Custom Tools" tab) with ATPad, a smaller editor. With this replacement it was possible to reduce the size of the package from 4.16 MB to 2.56 MB, without loosing any functionalities. Thank you.

Hi everyone, I've just released version 3.0.0.7. Here's what's changed:

- Refactored the code behind the download and execution of the tools, in order to reduce the dependency and number of calls to the definitions file.

- The file "Windows_Repair_Toolbox (fast start, no monitors).bat", that is in the same directory as Windows_Repair_Toolbox.exe and that starts WRT in a fail-safe mode, can now be executed from UNC paths.

- Adapted the download of "FastCopy" to the changes in the packaging of that application that were brought by its latest version, released yesterday (version 3.52). WRT automates all the steps that are now required to use that program as a portable application.

- Replaced "Webroot System Analyzer" with "Kaspersky System Checker" ("Diagnosis" button, in the "Useful Tools" section; and "Analysis" button, in the "Final Tests" tab), because this last one offers a more comprehensive diagnosis / analysis of the system.

Thank you!
