Windows Repair Toolbox

Thanks for making such a great program as I just started with it last week. Now if you could take the logs and sent to RepairShopr ticket that would be the best! :)

That would be awesome. I use this tool a lot as well.

Good to see an update was done. Definitely happy the issue with JRT and Adwcleaner was fixed.

Kudos to your work on WRT. We have been using it since you released it. We know you devote a lot of development time in this and you deserve to be rewarded. We did donate a while back to your development efforts and will be doing it again. Thanks for not going 'subscription'.

I'll just note that BitDefender REALLY doesn't like the portable download link you have. Identifies the specific download for the portable version as infected with malware.

Thanks for the heads up!

As usual Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender is identifying the new version of WRT as a virus, and, as usual, i'll report the false positive. Normally they're fast at correcting the problem.

I'm glad you enjoy! I'm not familiar at all with RepairShopr but i'll take a look.

Thank you very much for your trust and support!

Hi everybody,

i've just released an update to WRT (version 1.3.1.0). Here's what's changed:

- If Windows Repair AIO was selected to run as part of the Unattended Fix, during its repair number 5 a message box from WRT would prompt. That problem has been solved.

- In some parts of Unattended Fix the main Window of WRT would became irresponsive for a few seconds. That no longer happens and the process runs now more fluidly.

- Placed back the tooltip of “PatchMyPC” button (it was missing).

- Corrected the wording in “Serv.Repair” tooltip (the word “repair” was repeated).

- Placed back the info icon in the “Malware Removal” Tab (I removed it by mistake in the last update).

- Added an informational message that will show up when “sfc /scannow” button is clicked under Windows XP.

Thanks!

Latest version of WRT now being intercepted/blocked by Windows Edge browser, and, blocked by 360TS....(both blocks are easily overridden, however)

Not complaining and really not sure if I'm just missing a step but FRST will ask for a folder to save in when you run it. I made a folder on the flash drive and selected it and it didn't save anything to that folder. Not the FRST executable nor the text files.

Yup I am experiencing this issue as well. Had to override it.

Thanks for reporting!

As usual, Windows Defender / Microsoft Security Essentials are detecting the latest version of WRT as a trojan, and, as usual, I've reported the false positive. They are normally very fast at correcting the problem (2 to 5 days).

However, this time, i used the same ticket to report the problem with SmartScreen (that causes the block you mentioned with Edge Browser and also with IE11), and i'm hoping that doesn't slow down the process of fixing the false positive with Windows Defender / MSE. I wrote that my priority is the false detection, and that if it takes more time to also solve the problem with SmartScreen (if it can be solved at all), i would prefer to report it later in a separated ticket. I also reported the false positive to Qihoo 360.

Apart from Windows Defender / MSE detection, these are the current Virus Total results for WRT:

Normal version: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...a2eb50d18b4a34bb9c71b083/analysis/1462730559/ (1/56)

Portable version: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...1ed82688ff593eef4adc83c0/analysis/1462730068/ (1/56)

Exe: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...0addeb2e39b9a55d10e358f8/analysis/1462730167/ (1/56)

Not complaining and really not sure if I'm just missing a step but FRST will ask for a folder to save in when you run it. I made a folder on the flash drive and selected it and it didn't save anything to that folder. Not the FRST executable nor the text files.

Inbargains, thanks for reporting the bug! I was able to reproduce it and it's already fixed for the next version of WRT.

As it is now, FRST will be downloaded to the same location where you choose to download Zoek. If you didn't downloaded Zoek first, FRST will simply go to C:\. I'm sorry for the inconvenience! If you find more bugs please let me know so i can fix them :)

Also I forgot to mention that Emsisoft is reporting the WRT as well, although it specifically goes after the Nirsoft tools.

@cypress, thanks for the heads up. The Nirsoft Tools aren't present in WRT at start, they are downloaded per user request (the same way as the other tools).

If the user clicks in the "Nirlauncher" button, or try to use any of the Nirsoft password recovery tools in the "Notes" tab, WRT will prompt to disable the AV before starting the download and explains why... or else almost all AV's out there, including Emsisoft, will detect them as malware. I guess that is what's happening.

Yeah but on initial full scan after installing Emsisoft and WRT is already installed or going to be installed it flags it as malicious without launching the tools.

I've tested in a VM and found that the behavioral shield of Emsisoft pop's up a warning when launching WRT (i guess that is because is not a signed .exe). Thanks for the heads up! :)

Tool looks nice, though right now I can't download it. Sophos really doesn't like the website it's hosted from. Even the JPGs on the site are blocked due to tugajogos.pt being a high-risk website. Below is the error I get when attempting to download.

"Access to this page is blocked as the threat Mal/HTMLGen-A has been found on this website."

I suspect that if you used a different file hosting site, these errors wouldn't come up.

Thanks, I've reported the false positive.

Chuck it up on AWS, would cost barely a cent.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try to know more about it.

Event though I still haven't received a confirmation email, from what i tested WRT is no longer being detected by Windows Defender / MSE and SmartScreen. Thanks

Kudos Alex for this tool. Just started using it and it has nearly everything that was "rattling around" in my personal toolbox. Well done.

One suggestion. I dumped TDSS Killer in favor of MBAR a few years back and think that it is a better tool. I would welcome opinions from the crowd.

I've been away from this board for a while and glad to be back.
