Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

I've decided to bring back the "full" Chrome profile handling, even if some settings disappear because of different encryption key between source and target user profiles.
Just to let you know, at startup after restore/transfer, Chrome will do this, no matters what you do:
- Default search engine reverts back to Google
- Start page and tabs are reset to Chrome defaults
- New tab page settings is reverted to defaults
- Pinned tabs are wiped out
- Website settings are reset (like granted popups or mic access)
- Cookies are wiped out
- Extensions and themes are removed

I'll just add a warning saying that user must NOT click the "Reset all settings" button when going to Chrome settings after restore or things will get worse. This way, maximum settings will be kept and I'll get covered for missing items...
Aloha Fab. Mahalo for the updates. Just to clarify... if the user is syncing their google account in Chrome before running Autobackup, all these items gets restored to the new user profile once they resume syncing in Chrome. Correct? Or did I misunderstand something here? (quite easily could have done so)

If Google Sync is already used, then using Fab's to transfer Chrome profile is useless as user gets everything back on the new machine as soon as Google Sync is enabled on it too.
That being said, if Chrome profile is restored over anyway, then Google Sync gets disable (even Google account disappears). Chrome shows its "Chrome detected that some of your settings were corrupted by another program and reset them to their original defaults." message when going to settings and items are lost in the battle like saved credentials and some others already known.
However, things are not that bad since if you enable Google Sync again on new machine, missing settings come back.

Thanx. This is the info I was looking for!

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.9.0.5091 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Support for Microsoft Visio shapes, drawings, templates, stencils, addons and startup folder.
- Support for OpenVPN configuration files.
- "Full" Google Chrome profile is now handled again. Just be aware that at next startup, Chrome can reset settings like default search engine, start page and tabs, new tab page settings, pinned tabs, website settings (like granted popups or mic access) and cookies. It can also remove extensions and themes. To keep at least bookmarks and history, do NOT click the "Reset all settings" button in Chrome settings.

Removed:
- Malwarebytes now encrypts its license key. It cannot be grabbed anymore, so, this feature is removed.

Fixed:
- When dealing with large amounts of additional files at restore, the program could look stuck while it was listing them. Now, the backup process creates a text list of any additional file that's in the backup. This way, it will be able to list additional files way faster. If that list is not there, it will show that it is currently listing additional files.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

One issue I always have: when I'm restoring there's usually about 70 files that already exist, mostly related to Microsoft Edge. I'm not really sure whether to restore the newer version, keep older version, or whatever. Also, I've never clicked an answer to 70 consecutive dialog boxes. And even if I wanted to the buttons appear in a different spot on the screen depending on the length of the filename... so even if I wanted to click "replace" 70 times it would be exceedingly difficult as I'd have to position the mouse 70 different times.

This version should solve this as it makes a mirror copy when restoring/transferring. This has been introduced with the full chrome profile return. Since Edge works the same way, it uses the same function under the hood.

Downloaded the latest version. Whenever it comes to the nirsoft tools everyone comes back with a message like this. I don't see the file in the temp file. It acts like the zip file is not correctly extracting to the temp folder.nirsoft.jpg

I thought that the zip files were corrupted somehow but that's not the case. Contents extract fine. There could be problems like this is another anti malware but Windows Defender is running on the machine. I tested with Malwarebytes running at the same time and it deleted the tools as soon as Fab's extracted them. The fix was to disable Malwarebytes real time antimalware protection and this time it worked flawlessly.

It's actually more than a bit of a shock to me that Malwarebytes does not have each and every one of NirSoft utilities whitelisted. They're well-known quantities that have been "around since dirt," for the most part. The fact that some of them use what would and should look like "suspect methods" to software like Malwarebytes doesn't mean that they're actually problematic.

Because some of the tools can be used in a malicious manner.

Then limit those to the ones not whitelisted. The vast majority of his tools cannot be.

Almost anything can be twisted to nefarious purpose. But design intent, and actual general usage pattern for the software as designed, is what should matter. His utilities are not malware and should not be identified as such, in my opinion.

Can't download any Nirsoft tools with the latest Autobackup version. There is no firewall and AV is disabled. @fabs
This is going to be fixed with next update. For now, there are 2 workarounds:
- Grab full package from website as Nirsoft tools are now bundled inside.
- You can also use the "check for updates" link on first page. After that Nirsoft tools should download like they are supposed to do.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.9.1.5168 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- When dealing with dying slow hard drives, it is better to focus on the most important data for users. In backup mode, the program now processes users documents, pictures, music, etc... and emails before web browsers. Nothing changes in restore or transfer modes when it can be useful to be able to browse the internet while the program is processing remaining data.

Removed:
- Old BlackBerry OS smartphones do not work anymore since January 4th 2022. So, BlackBerry Desktop manager settings and BlackBerry backups items have been removed from Fab's AutoBackup.

Fixed:
- Fab's AutoBackup 7.9.0.5112 could not download Nirsoft tools if they were missing even without firewall restrictions.
- Some antivirus softwares (Kaspersky for example) could delete Fab's AutoBackup main program because of suspect behavior since it tried to whitelist itself from Windows Defender at startup.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office V7.9.1.5177 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Fixed:
- Nirsoft tools could still get caught and deleted by Windows Defender. Fab's AutoBackup now extracts them to a "%TMP%\Nirsoft" temporary folder and this folder also gets excluded from Windows Defender real time protection. Of course, Fab's AutoBackup removes that exclusion when it is closing.

@fabs I have a suggestion. I know that our software generates a report of failed files in the end, but could you write a function where you have the option to retry the files that failed during the initial transfer? Nothing sucks worse than using your software only to have hundreds of failed files in the end and your only option is to either live without those files, manually transfer them one by one, or just use a different software and run the backup again (I usually choose the third option). I'd really like to finally retire Unstoppable Copier, but it's just better at getting all the files when Fabs fails. I can't keep using this thing. The last time it was updated was 2010.

There is a "Skip them" option in Fabs, which does run a lot quicker on second pass. My comment though, is that you need to identify why those files are failing, and also if same files failing, need to evaluate why; You may have to change your process, or in some instances, they can't be transferred (OneDrive offline files for example).

VSS almost completely eliminates this too except PST files and OneDrive files unless there is an actual problem.

You can click 'Previous' and then do it again with all the same settings. Not sure if a Retry button is needed.

I bought my first license of Fabs 7 Pro 2 years ago. How often do people refresh Fabs for newer features and changes? Is there an update pattern or cycle that makes sense?
