Windows Repair Toolbox

Is WRT's website down? I noticed the past few weeks it was unable to 'phone home' anymore when starting to check on updates, and, now when I go to the website, it times out, offering/showing a cached version instead....

(I was able to get it from 'techspot', but, generally prefer to use the main source when possible...)

@MDD1963 , thank you for the heads up. I have another user, from Australia, complaining about the same and I was wondering if there was really some problem or if it was just on his computer. Since the website is accessible from other locations, I'm guessing that is something related to Cloudflare. Just to confirm, you're accessing from Japan, right (saw in your profile that you're in Japan)?

Is this the message you're getting when you try to access?
"This page (https://windows-repair-toolbox.com/) is currently offline. However, because the site uses Cloudflare's Always Online™ technology you can continue to surf a snapshot of the site. We will keep checking in the background and, as soon as the site comes back, you will automatically be served the live version. Always Online™ is powered by Cloudflare"

What should I change in the caption? Sorry, I'm probably missing something obvious :/

Oh I see, maybe "Program Version" or "Windows Repair Toolbox version"?
oh, does "Program" refer to the fact that its's reporting on the program update? That never occurred to me :-) I took it to be some sort of default thing that you forgot to finalise. In that case, perhaps something like "Application Update" or just ignore me ;)

Yes, "Application Update" sounds good and descriptive. Thank you!

I'm about to release an update that implements what was suggested by @Barcelona : the ability to add offline tools. Here's a screenshot of what I have prepared:

Capture.jpg

The idea is: you put your tools in the mentioned folder (those can be inside folders and subfolders, no problem), and then when you click the "Refresh Listbox" button they will appear in the listbox, sorted alphabetically, and ready to run.

The old functionality that allows to add tools that will "download and run" is also still there (those tools will appear in the Listbox prefixed with "[Download and Run]". Btw, the custom.xml will now be automatically opened with the portable minimal version of Notepad++ that I already included in the package, so there's no longer the need to install it separately.

Is there anything i should change in the "How to use:" text? I tried to keep it as succinct as possible, and what i am hoping is that with the actual use of the functionality things will become more perceptible.

About the ability of adding offline tools, WRT will detect and add to the listbox files with the following extensions: .exe, .bat, .cmd, .diagcab, .msi. Are there other extensions that would be useful to detect and add?

Finally, one limitation is that duplicated files will not appear in the Listbox. For instance if you have 2 files named Ccleaner.exe, only the first one will be added to the Listbox.

Yes, the above Cloudfare message is what I get what I get if I try to re-download it from WRT's home website, and, WRT itself now issues an error and is slow to start as it looks for an update before timing out after 15 seconds or so; perhaps it is blocked by some server at the Asia/Australia level? (turned off my firewall, no help)

As my connection and download speed is fairly snappy at ~800 Mbps, I don't think it's a slow connection issue despite my location. It always worked fine from here until perhaps 2-3 weeks ago, which, since the update was not working, is what prompted the removal/revisiting the home webpage...

I can ping the website (93 ms), but from here, not a single sign of life on actually hitting the website...

Just to confirm, the website still is

windows-repair-toolbox.com

?

Update: I can access the website from browser if turn on Tunnelbear VPN, but, WRT still cannot do the launch-initiated 'check for update' prior to starting....; very odd. (Perhaps 'strange Asian IP addresses' are being blocked at the hosting level? Seems logical if I can then at least access website if selecting US IP address in Tunnelbear...)

Yes, it's: https://windows-repair-toolbox.com/

I reported the issue to Cloudflare. Since the website is accessible from other locations, I guess that the problem is not with my web host provider. Are there any other users here from Australia or Japan that can please check if the website is accessible? Thank you!

Wouldn't the Cloudfare block seem to be at the hosting protection level if I can then access it if going thru Tunnelbear? (Unless I am misunderstanding Cloudfare's function..)

Thanks for your help for a rather obscure (for you) issue... :)

.vbs? .reg? I have a few tools/scripts that I use regularly.

working fine now from Okinawa, Japan! Fast work, great job!

(And, the program now updates definitions, instead of timing out)

Great. What happened is that my hosting provider was blocking some Cloudflare IP's.
Thank you for reporting and testing!

Hi everyone, version 1.9.0.8 is now available:

- Added the ability to add offline tools to the toolbox (functionality available from the “Custom Tools” tab). Thanks to @Barcelona , for the suggestion.

- Updated the “GSmartControl” download method, since GSmartControl has recently beginning to offer two different versions: one for Windows XP and other for Windows Vista and later.

- Replaced “FixWin” with a link to “Microsoft Easy Fix” (previously known as “Microsoft Fix it”).

- Replaced “ComboFix” with “HitmanPro”.

- Several other minor improvements and fixes.

As always, your feedback is welcome.

Thanks!

Ps: sorry for the typo in the "throw" word in the custom tools tab.
